The geologists recognized the pros and cons of some exploration tools and the importance of the petrological characteristics of the rock formations in determining the reservoir quality. I today's challenging environment a better understanding of the reservoir features became even more critical in improving the efficiency and maximizing the hydrocarbon recovery. Various ways of assessment were developed over time and the data collected continuously enhances our knowledge helping improve the way we explore and produce hydrocarbons. More and more of our work is focused on unconventional reservoirs, helping our clients solve the complex completion/production issues they are facing.

Our company has petrographers specialized in reservoir quality assessment of both siliciclastic and carbonate rocks using drill cuttings, cores and thin sections. Our focus is on porosity and permeability evaluations using Archie/Sneider Type Rocks, depositional environments, diagenetic evolution and natural fracturing assessment to help the exploration geologists better visualize a potential formation and take the best decisions on how to go ahead with the future development in order to minimize reservoir damage and streamline the drilling and completion operations. The logs are customizable to meet client’s needs, detailed, with digital photos to emphasize the findings (see projects pages). They can be also used as an efficient presentation tool.

Wellsite Geology

The Wellsite Geology represents a very important segment of our business. Therefore we strive to provide our clients with the highest quality services, recognizing the need for excellent information right off the bat.

We have geologists with various degrees of experience specialized in carbonates and/or terrigenous reservoirs. Their expertise comprises horizontal and vertical / directional drilling in the Western Canadian Basin, some having international experience as well.

Over the years we put in place an “in house” training program to help the junior geologists start their careers, as well as help our seasoned geologists update their knowledge with the latest in the business. We schedule meetings with our clients in which we understand their needs and, together with the geologist(s) assigned to the job, we view cores and drill cuttings to cover every aspect of the project. We train all our staff in the porosity / permeability evaluation methods we are using and some, over the years, ended up in our petrography department. We cover also wireline logging and DST supervision and interpretation.
